Do you have brake repair questions?

A: When your brake pads are worn down to minimum specifications and the rotors show no wear it’s advisable to replace the rotors at the same time. This is because rotors tend to warp and probably won’t last until the next brake job is needed. It’s less expensive to do the job correctly the first time then have to do it two times.
A: With automobile engineers designing vehicles for better fuel mileage and fewer costs, modern day vehicle’s brake rotors are not as thick as they used to be. This causes them to warp from not being able to properly absorb and displace the heat that’s generated from braking. The heavier the vehicle the faster and more brake rotors tend to warp before the pads need replacing.

A: There are very many choices between the different brake pads and brake rotors. The auto manufacturers know how important brakes are so they use the best quality parts. This is an area you don’t want to scrimp on. At Independent Motors we have researched the best quality parts for the money and know where to source them from. Sometimes we feel we need to use the manufactures genuine parts but typically we can save you money by using parts from the manufactures who build them for the car companies (OEM).

A: Most of your braking comes from the front brakes. In fact, the front brakes are responsible for up to 75% of the total braking. This is because when you are moving forward and apply the brakes the weight is shifted to the front of the vehicle which cause more traction on the front tires and less traction on the rears. So, if the front brakes are doing 60% to 75% of the braking, they will wear out sooner.
